Every Whale Shark Season is different and, although we have been doing our tours for over 15 years, we always have a different scenario.
Officially, the season starts on May 15th, but this is just a calendar day that Mother Nature does not always follow. Neither Whale Sharks nor weather conditions are aware of our human calendar.
This season has been particularly complicated because of the adverse weather. High waves and strong winds out there in the Whale Shark Area have made it impossible for us to do our tour. Except for May 16th, when we did go out to search for our friends (with no success), we have not been able to go out at all. On every other day after May 15th, the Harbor Master of Holbox has been restricting our boating activities in the Whale Shark area for safety reasons, and therefore we do not know exactly where the Whale Sharks are located right now.
The latest weather forecast shows strong winds for the rest of this week. This forecast of bad weather (wind & waves), combined with the fact that we do not know where the Whale Sharks might be, makes it very difficult to bring out a good result of our tour.
Today, we have decided to postpone the opening of our Whale Shark Season 2017 one week, and we will plan our tours starting May 29th, hoping for better weather conditions by that date.
If you are staying long enough, we can re-schedule your whale shark tour for next week, although we cannot guarantee good weather conditions. We also offer other boat activities in Holbox that can be carried out in the morning, like our 3-island tour, small fishing or maybe even Cabo Catoche. So if you wish to change your booking to any other tour that we offer, please let us know. And, of course, if you prefer, we can cancel your booking right away and proceed with a 100% refund of your down payment.
